Here's an idea I've been thinking over.

Once this place gets up-and-running again, we should have a contest where users nominate their favorite posts for three catagories (LaA, Diplomacy and Battle) before a deadline. After this deadline, the nominated posts are voted on. There would be three winners- first, second and third. Each place would give the winners certain RP-related bonuses (a small increase in MP or IP, for example). The rules are that you can't nominate one of your own posts, and you can only be in the top three every four contests.

Feel free to add to my idea, or shoot it down. Whatever you please.

Although your point still stands, some people do tend to be better writers than others.

WHAT?! Theo, first of all, you missed out on the ungodly horror of all the terrible posts it took me to get to the point I'm at. Talis can vouch for me that my writing skill in the first sci fi forum was "meh" at best, at least until the very end.

However, what's more important is that I believe most of us here post good material, though I myself do slip up sometimes as my horrible old writing creeps back into the present. We all have different styles, though. Plus, we write differently for different national characters. That's not to claim a total equality between all writers, but it is to say that given the many things I've found and liked in all of your writing, I don't feel qualified to judge anyone overall. Though, I could point out some individual posts I've loved, like Talis' battle modmarks for the first invasion of Aliq.

Now, there is an exception to this rule: I can say with confidence that all of us would get utterly SCHOOLED if Marinus or Awilla was here. Nobody would be proposing any contests then.

Finally, as to your idea, Solar. I don't want to see the forum become a writing competition. Good writing is important, of course, but no one should feel pressured into always one-upping the other guy or tying to reach some impossible standard of perfect writing. Plus, some people might feel judged.

Yes, Aspen, you're right; I see your point. Maybe it's not such a good idea.

No worries, Solar. You do make a valid point in that good RPing should be rewarded. However, we should probably stick to rewarding it through modmarks rather than by setting up a formal contest.
